The City of Wayland will demolish two Main Street properties this winter.

At their recent meeting the Wayland City Council awarded a bid to Leichty & Son Construction, Inc. to demolish the properties at 211 and 213 West Main Street for $15,250 plus $95 per ton of material to haul to a landfill. The properties were the former home of the Winfield Beacon/Wayland News publication and a beauty salon. Both properties were deemed derelicht due to previous fire damage and asbestos. The demolition is expected to be completed this coming winter and the city then plans to backfill and grade the land. According to City Clerk Beverly Conrad, the city has been in talks to demolish these buildings for a couple years and they hope to develop the land for future businesses.
