The Winfield-Mt. Union boys’ and girls’ basketball teams hosted Wapello on Tuesday for Southeast Iowa Super Conference play.

The lady Wolves continued their hot start to the season holding on for a 48-40 win. The Wolves controlled much of the game with their lead being as much as 16 points, before holding on after an Indian run in the final quarter. Lexee Hartsock had a monstrous day with 25 points and 17 boards. Freshman Jenna Buffington managed 13 points on five of 12 shooting. The Wolves stay unbeaten moving to 3-0 on the young season.

The boys ran into an experienced Wapello team that jumped all over them in the first half. The Indians scored at least 15 points in every quarter as the Wolves could not dig themselves out of a hole and fell 70-26. BJ Rodgers was a bright spot for WMU with 12 points and Christian Gerot added six. With the loss the Wolves start up their season 0-1.
