Alliant Energy is warning customers of scams after receiving a record number of reports.

Since December 1st, the company has had customers in Iowa report 265 scam phone calls. Approximately 75% of the complaints are from business customers. The company states, typically the scammers call customers claiming their with Alliant Energy and threaten to disconnect a utility service if the customer doesn’t immediately buy a prepaid credit card to make a payment. Alliant Energy does not request immediate payment or prepaid credit cards and will not threaten to disconnect a service via text message.

If you receive a scam call, hang up the phone, call Alliant Energy to verify your account status and report the scam to local law enforcement.
