The final deer hunting season for this year begins Monday and will end January 10 with the archery and late muzzleloader seasons.

According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources the 2017 Iowa deer harvest is running less than 1% ahead of the 2016 totals. So far 76,204 deer have been reported this fall, compared to 75,909 harvested for the same period last year. Hunters must have a hunting license, a deer tag, and have paid a habitat fee to hunt deer. Deer licenses are on sale until the last day of the bow and muzzleloader seasons. The shooting hours are a half hour before sunrise to a half hour after sunset.
