The Washington archery team continued their momentum from last year by starting up their season placing second at Ottumwa on Saturday.

The Demons placed second out of five high school teams with a score of 3277. Eddyville-Blakesburg took home the team title with a score of 3324. Samantha Mellinger highlighted the action for the Demons, reporting the best score out of 184 girls, with a score of 286 including 18 bulls eyes. The sophomore edged teammate Anna Miller by the slimmest of margins, Miller placed second with an identical score of 286 with 17 bulls eyes. Braeden Duwa paced the Demon boys with a score of 284, placing sixth out of 212 participants. Other top finishes for the Demons include Cody Mellinger with a score of 282, Alexis Ide with a 277, Samantha Frana with a 273, and Bryan Martin with a 273.

The Demons will look to continue their strong start Saturday hosting a tournament.
