Last week the Des Moines Register released its all-state football teams and three Washington players were recognized.

Jaivonn Willis was named to the first team. The senior wide receiver was the Demons’ playmaker on the outside with the most receiving touchdowns in class 3A with 13 scores. He hauled in 40 receptions for 837 yards, ranking second in the state.

Mitchell Huisenga was also named to the first team, as a lineman. The senior helped pave the way for the most yards per rush by a team in the state with 8.1. The Demons often ran behind him and resulted in the fourth-most rushing yards in the state with 2,880 yards. This was just one of many accolades the senior received this season, including being named the district lineman of the year.

The final senior recognized was Tanner Murphy as honorable mention. The linebacker was the captain of the defense with the third-most tackles in the district with 63. He added 18 tackles for a loss and four sacks on the year.

The trio helped the Demons to an 8-2 overall record and a trip to the state playoffs.
