Three area wrestling teams were in action over the weekend at the Mount Vernon tournament.

The Washington Demons had the best finish of the three area teams taking fifth of 15 schools with 150 points. Lisbon won the event with 222 points. Washington crowned on champion on the day with Tristan Westphal-Edwards taking home the title at 170lbs with a 5-4 decision over Bryce Werdeman of Lisbon. Other top finishes for the Demons include Mitchell Huisenga runner-up at 285lbs, and Garrett Ikerd at 138lbs and Tristan Allender 3rd at 220lbs.

Sigourney-Keota was 10th in the team standings of 15 schools with an overall score of 66.5 points. Two Cobras grabbed championships on the day including Mason Dye at 106lbs, beating Aidan Noonan of Cascade by 12-3 major decision in the title match. Kaleb Reeves was also a champion at 220lbs, pinning Logan O’Connor of Lisbon for the title.

Mid-Prairie was 15th with 18 points. Top finisher for the Golden Hawks was Isaac Boucher fifth at 220lbs.

Washington will next be in action Thursday when they travel to Keokuk in a Southeast Conference dual you can hear on KCII beginning with the Washington HyVee pregame show at 6p.m. and first matches at 6:30. Sigourney-Keota is next in action tonight when they host a quadrangular with Lynnville-Sully, Southeast Warren and Melcher-Dallas. Mid-Prairie is next on the mat Thursday in a River Valley Conference quadrangular against Northeast Goose Lake, Iowa City Regina and Cascade.
