The Mid-Prairie boys and girls basketball teams were in action Saturday against River Valley Conference rival Durant in doubleheader action in Wellman.

In a pair of games heard on KCII, the Golden Hawk girls scored a dominating 59-12 win over the Wildcats. Mid-Prairie led the game 21-1 after the first quarter and found themselves up 40-10 at the half. The Hawks enacted the continuous clock, two minutes into the second half. The Mid-Prairie defense feasted on 28 turnovers while only allowing the Wildcats two points the entire second half. Addie Rath led the Hawks with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Mid-Prairie is now 4-1 on the year, Durant falls to 0-7.

In the boys contest, Durant used two big runs to pull away from the Golden Hawks and get a 63-49 win. Mid-Prairie scored the first basket of the game, only to see the Wildcats answer with nine in a row. Mid-Prairie would battle back, pulling within one at 26-25 going into halftime on a Brad Tornow three at the buzzer. In the third quarter the two teams see sawed back and forth, each holding a two point lead before Durant put together another run, this one 10-0 to close out the third period. The Golden Hawks did not seriously threaten down the stretch. Cale Robertson led the Golden Hawks with 13 points, Dominic Pickard added 11. With the loss, Mid-Prairie is now 1-4 on the year, Durant improves to 5-1. The Golden Hawks are next in action Friday at West Liberty.
