The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams dropped both ends of a River Valley Conference doubleheader at West Branch Tuesday night.

In the girls game, it was the Bears with a 54-50 win. The game seesawed back and forth early with Mid-Prairie holding a 12-11 lead after one quarter and then trailing 22-19 at the half. Things stayed tight into the second half with the Bears moving their advantage to five going to the fourth quarter. The Golden Hawks were able to hang around but not able to hold a lead down the stretch falling by four. Addie Rath had 20 points and eight rebounds for Mid-Prairie, Anna Vilovchik finished with a dozen. The loss breaks the Hawks four game winning streak and drops them to 6-2 on the year.

Things played out much the same way in the boys contest with the Golden Hawks hanging around all night, but it was the Bears that came away with the 68-59 win. West Branch held an 18-16 lead after one quarter and led 33-29 going into the half. The Bears made their move out of the locker room with a run that gave them a 49-39 lead going to the final frame. In the fourth quarter Mid-Prairie could not put together a run to get back on top. The Golden Hawks were led by Tom Butters with a double double at 12 points and 14 rebounds. Dominic Pickard led all scorers with 16 points and Brad Tornow had 10. With the loss, Mid-Prairie is now 2-6 on the season.
