The latest chapter in the Lone Tree and Highland boys basketball rivalry was a classic as the Lions edged the Huskies for a 56-55 win in overtime.

The Huskies got out to a fast start, leading 20-13 after one quarter and held a 27-23 lead at the break. Lone Tree continued to chip away, taking their own 39-38 advantage into the fourth quarter. In the final frame the two teams battled back and forth, each holding the lead down the stretch and in the contest’s final 30 seconds. With under 10 seconds left in regulation, Austin Marshek drilled a three to give the Lions a 50-48 lead, only to see Trey Lasek convert a layup as time expired to send the game to overtime. In extra basketball, both squads continued to ride the see saw late. Brady Dauber delivered in the clutch with a 16 footer to put Lone Tree up one with under 15 seconds left and Highland could not answer giving the Lions the win. Lone Tree was led by Brock Smith with 16 points. Highland put four in double figures with Zach Lasek going for 19 points and 18 boards. Trey Lasek had 13 points, Cole Adamson 11 and Mason McFarland 10. Both teams are on holiday break with the Huskies are 4-3 while Lone Tree stands at 3-4 overall.
