Taking care of indoor plants during the winter is relatively simple, regardless of the weather conditions outside.

According to horticulturists with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, indoor plants aren’t growing as much during the winter as they do the rest of the year. This means plants require less watering and should not be fertilized.

One problem for indoor plants in winter is the low humidity levels in homes, which can cause plants to become dry with moisture evaporating from potting soil. One way to help fight this is to group plants together to help add moisture to the air in the vicinity of the plants. Also, placing pots in saucers and having excess water flow into the saucer can help raise the humidity around indoor plants.
