The blueprints didn’t line up exactly with reality for the Highways 1 and 22 intersection project in Kalona.

All four lanes of traffic have been reopened at the four way stop, but Iowa Department of Transportation crews have made adjustments to the intersection’s painted lines after seeing traffic flow. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh said at the city council meeting December 4 that the DOT has agreed to move back the lines 12 feet, and they have installed a camera to monitor the traffic flow. Councilmember Jenelle Bender asked if rumble strips were going to be implemented, to which Schlabaugh said no, due to the Amish community. Schlabaugh said he met with crews working on the bridge replacement project on Highway 22, and should be completed within a week.
