The City of Kalona is nearing the end of its Salveson Creek restoration project. Peterson Contractors Inc. has finished the two-tier repairing and buffering of about 1,100 linear feet north of Highway 22 on Salveson Creek.

The work was done to stabilize and maintain the creek’s banks, and provide a mechanism to slow down fast-moving water. The council set a date for a meeting to authorize a loan agreement in an amount not exceeding $225,000 on February 5. The loan is paid by a $3 monthly stormwater assessment fee from residents. The project was also funded with approximately $100,000 of grants from the State Revolving Fund.
