The word cocoa has long been synonymous with carols for the annual Mid-Prairie High School Winter Concert, but this year the Fine Arts Boosters seek to replace that word with kindness.

Instead of serving hot cocoa the boosters are asking attendees to bring an item for local food pantries. Requested items include canned vegetables, canned soup, fruit cups, pasta, peanut butter, and rice. Besides food, they are accepting items like paper towels, toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, and toilet paper.

Vocal Music Director Collette McClellen shares what she’s looking forward to at Kindness & Carols, “I love one of the Royal Court, that’s a small select group of students, they are singing O Come, O Come Emmanuel but they’re actually singing it in Latin. It’s gorgeous, the kids worked really really hard on it. I gave them a very short amount of time in which to learn it and I think they rose to the occasion.”

The Royal Court will perform, as well as the mixed choir, ladies’ lyrica, concert band, jazz band, and multiple soloists and small ensembles. Kindness & Carols is at 7:15 p.m. Monday in the Mid-Prairie High School Gymnasium. Admission is $2 for adults, and free for students.
