The Washington boys’ basketball team ran into a buzz saw in their season opener falling to class 4A Muscatine 63-23.

As heard on KCII, it was all Joe Wieskamp from the start, as the senior scored the first nine points for the Muskies and never looked back. Mix that with cold shooting from the Demons and Muscatine led at the break 41-11 with Wieskamp having 27 points and 10 boards. The future Hawkeye was as good as advertised, finishing the night with 37 points and 12 rebounds. The Demons continued to compete in the second half, just couldn’t find their stroke as they shot less than 20% from the floor.

Cale Hobscheidt led the Demons on the night with six points and three boards. Dalton Myers added four points on two of four shooting.

With the loss the Demons open the season 0-1 but look for revenge Friday hosting Fairfield for Southeast Conference play.
