The Winfield-Mt. Union basketball teams were in action for the final time in 2017 on Tuesday traveling to Pekin and the Panthers came out victorious in both contests.

In the girls’ game, the Panthers used their length to cause fits, as WMU turned the ball over 21 times and Pekin capitalized on 18 points off of those miscues. They jumped out to a 15-8 first quarter lead and 28-17 lead at the break before breaking things open in the third. Lexee Hartsock led the way for WMU with 17 points and Allie McCartor added five points with 13 boards. With the loss the Wolves fall to 5-5 on the year.

In the boys’ game, it was much of the same as WMU stuck around for a while before a big third quarter for Pekin paved the way for a 60-38 win. It was 25-14 at the break before a 25-point explosion for Pekin broke it open. The Wolves had a tough time stopping Cameron Millikin having a game-high 19 points. Jared Arnold led the way for the Wolves with nine points on three of nine shooting.

Winfield-Mt. Union is off for the holiday break and will get back at it January 2nd hosting Mediapolis.
