Tuesday, the Mid-Prairie boys and girls basketball teams were beaten in a River Valley Conference doubleheader at Iowa City Regina High School.

The Golden Hawk girls fell to the Regals in a tight 50-46 game. Mid-Prairie got out to a quick start holding a four point lead midway through the first quarter. The Regals turned things around and led 21-14 after one quarter. Regina would extend that lead to as many as 10 in the second quarter and hold an eight point advantage at the break. Trailing by nine in the third quarter the Golden Hawks put together a 7-0 run late in the frame to cut the lead to two. With a chance to tie it, Mid-Prairie missed a pair of free throws and Regina ended the frame on a 5-0 mini run to take back control and the Hawks never seriously threatened the rest of the night.

Alex Wiese led the Regals with 23 points. Mid-Prairie put two in double figures with Addie Rath going for 17 and Anna Vilovchik 16. With the loss the Hawks are now 2-1 on the year.

Iowa City Regina controlled the boys game from the opening tip en route to the 66-44 win. The Regals scored the first 21 points in the game, leading 16-0 after one quarter and 37-11 at the half. The Golden Hawks did not score for the first 10 minutes of the contest and started the game on a 12 minute drought from the floor. Regina stretched their lead to as many as 30 points in the second half.

Even Brauns led Regina with 20 points. Mid-Prairie was led by Cale Robertson’s nine points. Mid-Prairie is now 0-3 on the year. The Golden Hawks will next be in action Friday when they host the Wilton Beavers in a River Valley Conference doubleheader.
