The $3.5 million grant from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation to the YMCA of Washington County expired this month.

The grant was awarded in the fall of 2015 for the new Washington YMCA building project and was the largest the foundation had ever awarded.

Interim CEO of the YMCA of Washington County Amy Schulte tells KCII News they currently have $3,003,362 in private donations that have been pledged. She adds, their goal is to raise at least $6 million privately before making grant requests to either the Washington County Riverboat Foundation or Vision Iowa. Schulte says their goal to build a new facility in Washington remains the same. The plan is for the YMCA to build a new facility in phases with a design that allows for additions.
