Savages Split with Belle Plaine

The Sigourney boys and girls basketball teams were on the floor Tuesday when they hosted Belle Plaine in South Iowa Cedar League action.

On the boys side, the Plainesmen scored a 68-54 win. The game was tight through the first half with Belle Plaine leading 13-11 after one quarter and 28-25 at the half. Things stayed close through the third quarter with Belle Plaine leading 46-42 going to the final frame. In the fourth, Belle Plaine took control outscoring Sigourney 22-12 to secure the win. The Savages were led by Dustin Haines with 15 points, Dawson Baumert had 12 and Spencer Magill added 11. The Sigourney boys are now 1-2 on the season.

The Sigourney girls remained undefeated, blasting Belle Plaine 55-26. Sigourney led 13-8 after one quarter but used the middle two frames to pull away, outscoring the Plaineswomen 34-5 combined during the second and third quarters to run away with the win. Summer Barthelman led the way with 12 points, Megan Stuhr added 10. Sigourney is now 3-0 on the year,
