The Sigourney boys’ and girls’ basketball teams had a successful night Tuesday sweeping Iowa valley on the road.

After falling to Washington on Monday, the girls had a big bounce back win defeating the Tigers 65-42. The first quarter continues to be kind to Sigourney, as they jumped out to a 25-8 lead after the first. The Savages have outscored their opponents by a remarkable 82 points in the first quarter through six games. The lead grew to as much as 35 at the half and the Savages cruised to the victory. Autum Barthelman led the way with 18 points on six of 12 shooting including scoring her 1,000th career point. Leah carter had 14 points and Brooke Waechter added 13. With the win Sigourney moves to 5-1 on the year.

The boys had a defensive battle to come out victorious 45-41. After trailing 16-11 after the first, a big second quarter propelled Sigourney to a 26-21 halftime lead. It was back and forth the rest of the way, as Sigourney held on late to secure the win. Spencer Magill paced the Savages with 12 points and Brett Striegel added six. The Savages improve to 3-2 on the young season.

Sigourney gets back on the court tomorrow traveling to Montezuma.
