As Washington County receives snowfall this week, it’s good to be reminded to slow down and be patient while driving as crews work to clear roads.

Washington County Engineer Jacob Thorius advises drivers to be mindful of snow plows, “[The] thing I like to remind people is just to slow down, give us time, give room around the equipment. It’s hard for them to see you especially when the snow’s flying and it takes longer to stop. Slow down, be patient and we are out there doing the best we can on our roads. We don’t run 24/7 like the state unfortunately, we just don’t have that manpower. So it may be a couple days before we get to your house, clear your road and get you out, just be prepared and use caution out there.”

The county maintenance hours of operation are typically 5 a.m.-5 p.m., and in the instance of snowfall Thorius says the crews try to get paved roads cleared within one day and gravel roads within two days of the storm.
