Gumdrops, marshmallows, licorice and more have been turned into shingles and siding at the Washington Public Library.

The first year of the gingerbread decorating contest is underway at the Washington Public Library, director Debbie Stanton explains, “[It’s] kind of like our festival of pumpkins, because that’s so successful and people enjoy it so much Jenisa decided to do a gingerbread decorating contest. So it’s kind of the same thing, where you can do all of your decorating at home and then you just bring in the finished product. We will put them up on the shelves and people get to vote for their favorite gingerbread houses.”

Voting wraps up this Saturday, and it can be done in person at the library or through their Facebook page. There are three prize categories: children, teen, and adult. The winners will be announced on December 27th.
