The Washington boys’ basketball team gets their first crack at the 2017-2018 season tonight when they host class 4A Muscatine.

The first look at the Demons came last week when they defeated West Branch at the Iowa Mennonite School jamboree. Washington brings back experience from their 7-14 season a year ago, including third-leading scorer Jack Redlinger averaging eight points. Dalton Myers led the team in the jamboree with nine points and led the team in assists and steals last year. Jacob Van Osdol adds a threat from behind the arc shooting 48% from threes and averaged four points per contest.

In order for the Demons’ to find success, they will have to slow down top 50 recruit in the nation Joe Wieskamp. The 6’6’’ senior led scoring in all classes a year ago, averaging 30 points per game while shooting 56% from the floor. The future Iowa Hawkeye is the heart and soul of the Muskies leading the team in every statistical category last season, including 10 rebounds a game and 40 steals. Muscatine is coming off of a 15-7 season where they fell in the class 4A substate round.

The season gets started at 7:45 p.m. tonight at Washington High School. Tune into KCII to listen to the broadcast starting at 7:15 p.m. with the Washington HyVee pregame show.
