The Washington City Council is working to get the necessary space to build a new fire department in the coming year and beautify the town.

At their recent meeting, the council acted on two pieces of property. City Administrator Brent Hinson explained 302 South 2nd Avenue was donated to the city. The house will be demolished and the property will become an extension of Madison Park. The other property was located at 202 East Jefferson Street. Councilor Steven Gault investigated options and developed a deal to obtain the 202 East Jefferson property in exchange for moving the city-owned house at 208 East Jefferson to a city-owned lot at 415 West Madison. The house will be prepared for occupancy with a cap of $18,000 by the current owner of 202 Jefferson.
