A day’s work as a substitute teacher in the Washington School District was worth $110, until Thursday’s Washington School Board meeting.

The board unanimously approved increasing it to $135. Superintendent Jeff Dicks said it hadn’t been addressed in about seven years, “You know, there’s people that like to sub for us, and maybe they’re not going to go up there for the extra $25, but let’s take care of them, it’s tough to find subs all the time.” Area districts had higher rates, including Iowa City at $125 and Mid-Prairie recently raising their’s to $135. The increase will take effect January 1st.
