The first conference dual of the season was a success for the Washington wrestling team, as they dominated Fairfield 59-12 on Thursday.

As heard on KCII, 11 of the 14 matches were in favor of the Demons. Matt Collett got things started at 106 lbs when he got the fall with just six seconds remaining in the final period. The Trojans found the equalizer at 113 lbs with a pin, but Walker Ikerd answered right back with a technical fall at 120 lbs. The Demons never looked back from there, as Brandon Dickel got the fall at 126 lbs, Dillan Sanders with the fall at 132 lbs, Garrett Ikerd with the 6-2 decision at 138 lbs, and Kiowa Keith had the 6-4 decision at 145 lbs. Heading into a brief intermission to recognize Take Down Cancer night the Demons led 29-6.

After a pair of forfeits by Fairfield, other winners for Washington in contested matches include David Hora at 152 lbs by fall, Collin Murphy at 182 lbs by fall, and Logan Escher at 195 lbs by fall. Washington was effective all night in battling until the whistle, as five Demons won by fall or technical fall within the final 10 seconds of a period.

With the win the Demons move to a 10-1 record in duals on the season. They get back on the mat tomorrow traveling to Mount Vernon. Washington wrestling will return to KCII on Thursday when they travel to Keokuk.
