The City of Winfield presented an application for a state grant for their community pool project Wednesday.

Winfield officials gave information on their project to the Community Attraction and Tourism (CAT) grant review committee at the Iowa Economic Development Authority in Des Moines. They are requesting $250,000 for the $1.5 million project, for which they have over $770,000 raised.

Winfield Deputy City Clerk Lisa Rees says a date to break ground on the pool is not finalized, “We have the drawings and stuff, I would say they’re probably about 99% done. Now we’re just waiting on the fundraising and as soon as the funding comes in then we will be able to start.”

The Iowa Economic Development Authority will decide whether to award a grant to Winfield pending the CAT Review Committee’s recommendation. The Rick Rodgers Community Pool will be located where the old Twin Lakes Country Club pool was situated, and has received grants from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation and Walmart Distribution Center.
