An Iowa wrestling legend will be in Washington Wednesday for a book signing.

Olympic champion and former University of Iowa wrestling coach Dan Gable has a new book out and is holding signing events at Casey’s General Stores across the state. The book is titled A Wrestling Life 2. He says the events aren’t just to promote the book, “I think it’s more about Casey’s. And hopefully this will be promoting wrestling as well. You know, cause it’s small towns, it only takes one kid in your town to go to the state [tournament] and all of the sudden you have a great following. You don’t often take your whole team down to state as compared to one person, so that’s one of the good things about the sport of wrestling.”

When asked what makes wrestling special, Gable said, “It’s such a good learning tool for life. I call them disciplines. And when you master the disciplines of wrestling you will pretty much master what you need to be able to get through life, and from a discipline point of view it helps a lot.”

Wednesday Gable will be in Fairfield 7-8 a.m., Mediapolis 10-11 a.m., Columbus Junction 2-3 p.m. and Washington’s new Casey’s on the east side of town 5-6 p.m. He’ll also be in Sigourney December 12th 7-8 a.m.
