A phone scam is happening in Henry County.

According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, they have received reports of residents being called by someone claiming to work for Alliant Energy, saying they will shut off the person’s utilities and gas if they don’t receive payment immediately. The caller requests that the customer pay them with “MoneyPak” or a similar prepaid credit card. After obtaining and putting money on the card, the caller asks the customer for the card number, and the money is deposited into the caller’s account.
