Farmers who planted cover crops this past fall are reminded to sign up for a reduction on their crop insurance in 2018.

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship says the innovative new program provides $5 per acre premium reduction and the deadline to sign up is Monday, January 15th. Working with the USDA, the Department worked to establish the three-year demonstration project in an effort to expand the usage of cover crops in the state. According to the Department, cover crops can help prevent erosion while improving water quality and soil health. For more information and to sign up click here.
