A stalemate in Washington, D.C. may result in a government shutdown.

Republicans are working to have a short-term funding bill approved to keep offices running. Senator Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) tells KCII News that a compromise on DACA, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, doesn’t have to be made until March but Democrats want to have it considered now. He says defense funding is another part of the issue causing the delay in passing a funding bill, “But to reach final agreement for Fiscal Years 18 and 19 on how much spending to have there’s channel agreement we need more money for defense. And there will be a lot more money for defense because of the War on Terrorism, and trying to make up for the shortcomings of money that Obama didn’t want to spend on defense. But there’s a lot of people, particularly in the Democratic party, that say if you’re going to spend $1 more on defense then you have to spend $1 more on domestic programs.” The last government shutdown happened in October of 2013.
