The Highland basketball teams seized area bragging rights from Columbus Community on Tuesday night by sweeping a double-header.

In the girls’ game the Huskies came out on top in a defensive battle 39-31. Highland kept the Wildcat offense in check in the first half but only had a slim 25-20 lead at the break. Both offenses struggled to find a rhythm in the second half but Highland held on for the eight-point win. Alyson Stokes led the Huskies with 16 points and Courtney Zaehringer led the Wildcats with nine. Highland moves to 9-3 after the win and Columbus Community drops to 2-10.

In the boys’ game it was all Huskies, as they jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back to manage a 74-40 rout. Highland was clicking on all cylinders offensively with them up 23-10 after the first and 42-22 at half. In the second half it was much of the same, as the Huskies won every quarter that led to the 34-point win. Zack Lasek led the Huskies with 19 points and Mason McFarland added 16. Highland improves to 6-4 and the Wildcats drop to 0-10.

Highland gets back at it tomorrow traveling to Winfield-Mt. Union and Columbus heads to Burlington Notre Dame.
