Warmer temperatures and forecasted precipitation are cause for ice anglers to be cautious this weekend.

According to Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Fisheries Biologist Chad Dolan there is anywhere from 7-12 inches of ice at Lake Darling. The warm temperatures last week added a runoff color to the water which makes it more difficult for fish to see bait. There is a fair chance of catching bluegills and black crappies at Lake Darling, as they are found near 10-12 foot deep water. The National Weather Service predicts temperatures reaching 48 degrees Sunday with a chance of rain that could deteriorate ice. Only four inches of ice is needed for ice fishing but Dolan advises caution to those going out on the ice.
