The City of Kalona is exploring forming a 28E Agreement with the City of Wellman for equipment.
As part of its capital improvements plan Kalona will be replacing its street sweeper within the next two years. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says after informal discussions with Wellman officials who are also wanting a street sweeper, and because of its high cost, Schlabaugh is interested in seeing if the cities can form a 28E agreement to jointly own and insure the equipment, with Kalona in charge of housing and maintaining it.
Facilities Superintendent Matt Jacoby commented on the idea, “I need to get with some of the employees over in Wellman and just see if there’s anything they have that would benefit us also. If we’ve got some equipment that they need to borrow, maybe there’s something that they have that we don’t and could benefit us also, and we might work that into the agreement if something comes up.”
Schlabaugh says there could be potential to share other equipment.
