In a battle of KCII area teams Tuesday night the Columbus Wildcats hosted the Lone Tree Lions for a boy girl Superconference basketball doubleheader.

In the girls contest it was the Wildcats that grabbed a tight 48-43 win. Columbus controlled the first quarter and built an 11-4 lead through the first eight minutes. The Wildcats would grow their lead to 21-10 going into the half. The Lady Lions made their move out of the locker room, exploding for 18 points in the third quarter to climb within 33-28 going to the fourth but the Wildcats were able to hold off the charge down the stretch for the win. Courtney Zaehringer and Anna Hamilton led the way for Columbus with 12 points apiece. Maki Mendenhall finished with 10. With the loss Lone Tree falls to 1-9. Columbus is now 2-8.

The Lone Tree boys got back to .500 on the year with a tight 54-50 win on the road over the Wildcats. The first quarter belonged to the defenses with Columbus leading 9-8 after the first eight minutes. In the second quarter Lone Tree exploded for 29 points to take a 37-20 lead into the locker room. Despite the large deficit Columbus chipped away in the second half, pulling within 45-34 going to the fourth and cutting the Lone Tree lead to one possession late before the Lions held on for the win. Keegan Edwards led Lone Tree with 11 points. Tommy Pretz had a big night for Columbus with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Lone Tree is 4-4 on the year while Columbus falls to 0-10.
