Description: 8th grade and transfer students are invited to visit Iowa Mennonite School Monday February 19. Parents are invited for a short meeting at the start of the day to visit with the administrative team. Students are invited from 8:10 a.m.-3:15 p.m. to tour facilities, visit classes, eat lunch, meet faculty and hear from a panel of current students. Register at iowamennonite.org/visit.

Description: Mid-Prairie West Elementary is hosting Girls on the Run, a program that inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using an experience-based curriculum, which creatively integrates running. Over a 10-week period girls will explore and discuss their own beliefs around experiences and challenges girls face at this age and develop strategies and skills to help them navigate life experiences. At the end of the session the girls will participate in a Girls on the Run 5k event. Registration is open until February 14 and the program will begin February 20. Description: The Iowa Mennonite School senior class annual chili supper is on Saturday February 10 from 4:30-7 p.m. in Hillcrest Union. This year will take a trip back in time to 1960, the year the supper was started by Elta Burkholder. They will be serving her original chili and cheese sandwich recipes, and for those that remember watching the Audubon Society films after you ate, IMS will have a modern spin on those as well.

Description: Come enjoy a night out at the annual fireman’s dance Saturday February 10 at the KC Hall in Washington. There will be a DJ, light refreshments, and drinks. There will be a free rides home within Washington city limits. The event starts at 7 p.m. with a benefit auction at 9 p.m. All proceeds benefit the Washington Volunteer Fire Department, and tickets are available at the fire station.

SILT President Suzan Erem will speak on Tuesday January 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Washington County Extension Office. Erem will discuss the importance of permanently protecting land for nature-friendly food production and how to use your passion for growing plants to talk to friends and neighbors about farmland protection. This meeting is free and open to the public.
