In the latest chapter of the Mid-Prairie Iowa City Regina basketball rivalry it was a sweep written by the Regals in Wellman Tuesday.

The No. 8 ranked Regina girls scored a 71-60 victory in the opener. Mid-Prairie started the game hot, hitting a pair of threes to open the scoring and take a 6-0 lead. Regina answered with an 8-0 run and would never trail again. The Regals used pressure defense to force 24 Mid-Prairie turnovers on the night, feeding Regal runs. Regina was up 44-27 at the half and would lead by as many as 20 in the second half. The Hawks continued to stay hot from the floor including 10 three point goals but would get no closer than nine down the stretch.

Four Hawks ended in double figures led by Addie Rath’s 17. Delaney Smith finished with 12, Shae Becker and Anna Vilovchik each had 11. With the loss Mid-Prairie is now 9-5.

Regina used a big run to take the boys game going away 67-42. The Regals led 11-8 after one quarter but outscored Mid-Prairie 18-0 to start the second including a six minute Golden Hawk drought from the floor to open a 35-17 lead at the half. In the second half, Regina would stretch the lead to as large as 30.

Tom Butters led the Golden Hawks with 10 points. With the loss, the Hawks are now 2-12 on the year.
