As plans begin for the next fiscal year’s budget, the Washington County Supervisors have heard presentations from area entities for funding requests.

At this week’s meeting, the supervisors had presentations from the English River Watershed Management Authority, Main Street Washington, Washington Economic Development Group, and East Central Iowa Housing Trust Fund. Main Street Washington requested an increase of two percent, which equates to $150 for a total of $6,400.

Tracey Achenbach with East Central Iowa Housing Trust Fund requested an increase of $410 for a total of $2,048. These funds are part of the four-county organization’s overall 25% local match to leverage state funding. Achenbach explained while Washington County is one-fourth of the area served, far more happens locally with almost 55% of their funds spent in Washington County, mostly helping to improve low income senior housing. Over 132 households have been assisted locally.

The English River Watershed and WEDG made the same requests as last year of $10,000 and $19,400, respectively.
