The Sustainable Iowa Land Trust will be the topic of a program in Washington County.

The Washington County Master Gardeners are hosting the program at which President Susan Erem will speak about the importance of permanently protecting land for nature-friendly food production and farmland protection. Discussion will include agroforestry, permaculture, community gardens, and market farms. In 2015 the Sustainable Iowa Land Trust, or SILT, was launched. It is a nonprofit land trust and has protected more than 400 acres in Iowa for permanent sustainable food production.

The program is free and open to the public, and will be January 23rd at 6:30 p.m. at the Washington County Extension Office.
