The Lone Tree basketball teams welcomed area school Winfield-Mt. Union to town on Friday and both schools split the doubleheader.

In the girls’ game, the Wolves used their advantage down low to squeak out a 42-39 victory. With the Lions up 20-18 at the break, the difference came in the third with the Wolves outscoring Lone Tree 16-5 to take a nine-point lead heading into the final frame. The Lions kept battling back in the fourth, but it was not enough, as the Wolves held on for the conference win. Lexee Hartsock had a huge night for WMU with 22 points and 11 rebounds. With the win the Wolves improve to 7-6 and the Lions drop to 1-10.

In the boys’ game, the Lions managed the split with a 75-70 barnburner win. The Lions controlled much of the first half with their offensive production and led 40-31 at the break. Down 10 heading in the final frame, WMU kept edging closer but Lone Tree held on for the five-point win. The Wolves’ BJ Rodgers led all scorers with 30 points. The Lions had three players in double figures headlined by Brock Smith with 27 points on 11 of 18 shooting. With the win Lone Tree improves to 5-5 and WMU drops to 1-11.
