Women’s rights and concerns will be voiced Saturday in Washington during a Women’s March.

The event coincides with the first legislative briefing of the session in Washington. Carol Ray, who is helping to organize the event, shares what it’s about, “What I’ve been saying for years, I mean, when I started teaching that was the beginning of the old consciousness raising sessions. And what I told my students over and over is sisterhood is power, that’s the message, you get together, you work together, and you make a change.”

June Henderson adds that she wants to see men and women take part from both sides of the aisle, “It started out as a women’s rights march but it’s become so much more than that. There’s so much polarization going on in the nation between families and friends, and I think there are more issues that we can agree on than not. So I’m hoping that this march brings people together, pull together for the greater good, and just show a unity, that’s what I’m hoping for.”

They encourage people to attend the legislative briefing 10 a.m. to noon at the Washington Public Library and then join outside for a march in downtown.
