Prom is approaching for high school students, and a Wayland woman helps students avoid the cost of purchasing a prom dress with her annual dress giveaway.

All Dolled Up is a free offering of formal dresses, shoes, and jewelry that happens at the Wayland Youth Center.

Organizer Jenny Unternahrer started the giveaway seven years ago while she was working for the WACO School District, and since then the community has surrounded her with support for the program, “There’s a need, there’s absolutely a need. And I thought a couple of times about the amount of work that really only goes into this time of year, but it’s definitely some work. And I think, ‘You know what? Somebody’s going to need this.’ I thought the first year when I did it if I had at least one girl come in, great. And I think that first year I had 10, and in the six years I’ve done it I’ve had 110 total come in and get gowns. So every year it gets a little bit bigger.”

Unternahrer says she has dress sizes of 0-24, but she could use donations of size 18 and up. The dresses are free for those to keep, but will gladly accept the gowns to be returned for others to enjoy. All Dolled Up will be open at the Wayland Youth Center this Saturday from 9-11 a.m. and on April 7.
