As snowmobiles are on trails near streets and highways, drivers are reminded to be cognizant of them this winter.

Southeast Iowa Ridgeblasters President Cody Krueger gives advice to drivers, “I would say just make sure if you meet them at an intersection be cautious. They should be stopping and waiting for traffic. We should be cautious and keep in mind snowmobilers typically don’t ride alone, so if you see one snowmobile expect there may be another one following.”

According to the Washington County Communications Office at least two snowmobilers were advised by sheriff’s deputies this week about safety. Krueger warns snowmobilers to follow signage on trails whether it’s directional, stop signs, or caution signs. Snowmobilers should also always keep to the right on trails and expect oncoming vehicles.
