The cause of death of Iowa Mennonite School student Teresa Cardenas has been ruled.

An autopsy from the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled that the death of 15-year-old Cardenas was an accident. Cause of death was listed as blunt force injury to the head and neck. She died December 1, 2017, after falling from a ladder at IMS during a school function. Emergency crews were called to the school and worked to revive her but were unable to. She was taken to the University of Iowa Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
