Columbus Junction will be filled with red, green, and white this weekend as an annual Welsh holiday is celebrated.

Saint David’s Day is recognized on March 1, but local residents of Welsh descent will honor the patron saint of Wales this Saturday with a parade and dinner in Columbus Junction. Event organizer Troy Pugh is of Welsh descent, and he was inspired to start the event after hearing about one for Saint Patrick’s Day, “I thought, if they can have an Irish parade in Columbus Junction we should probably have a Welsh parade, because there are a lot of Welsh people around the Columbus Junction, Cotter, Wyman, Crawfordsville area.”

Participants are encouraged to bring Welsh banners and flags with their family name for the parade which begins at 1 p.m. under the viaduct in downtown Columbus Junction. The parade will conclude at the American Legion where they will be serving lobscouse, a traditional Welsh stew, and other Welsh food.
