The Kalona City Council gave change orders and payments for the community center project at their recent meeting.

A change order increase of $350.87 was approved for DeLong Construction for a patch of concrete that was out of project scope, as well as a change order increase of $3,187.20 to Ace Electric for a new cable for the generator that powers both the community center and the fire station. A pay application of $512,150.47 was given to Bushong Construction and a pay application of $2,271.07 was given to Summit Fire Protection for the sprinkler system.

City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh comments on the construction progress, “Weather last week was not conducive to be on top of a roof moving 42 roof panels, so we lost a little bit of time there. But they’re back at it and they’ve brought in some more staff to assist in trying to get that roof completed by the first part of next week.”

The $5.3 million community center is scheduled for completion August 10.
