Survive and advance. That’s the mantra for all area wrestlers from here on out, as today kicks off the postseason with sectionals. The Demons start up their journey back to Wells Fargo Arena when they welcome five other teams to town.

The Demons were last on the mat Saturday when they placed fourth out of 12 teams at the Southern Iowa Classic in Fairfield. Washington had two first place wrestlers including Tristin-Westphal Edwards and Collin Murphy. Westphal-Edwards has been a force all season at 170 lbs racking up a 38-1 record in his junior campaign. Murphy took home the title at 182 lbs to push his record to 29-9. Other Demons that have led Washington on the year include Walker Ikerd (27-6) at 120 lbs, Tanner Murphy (28-5) at 220 lbs, and Mitchell Huisenga (24-4) at 285 lbs.

Other teams making the trip to Washington include Centerville, Davis County, Fairfield, Mid-Prairie, and West Liberty. The battle for the top two spots gets started at noon today at Washington High School.
