The Washington girls’ basketball season continues after they crushed Fort Madison 49-12 on Wednesday in the first round of the class 4A regionals.

From start to finish there was no doubt in this one, as Washington jumped out to a 15-3 lead after the first in part by a stifling 1-2-1-1 press. The Bloodhounds struggled to get the ball across half court much of the first have and compiled 18 turnovers at the break. The Demons were in control 33-8 at half. In the second half Washington continued to have great ball movement against Fort Madison’s 2-3 zone and the rout was on for the 37-point win. Contributions came from all over for Washington led by Sarah Nacos with 15 points. Haylee Wilson added nine points off the bench and Anna Nacos had six.

Washington improves to 7-15 on the year and Fort Madison closes the season at 1-21. The Demons move onto the regional semifinal round Saturday when they travel to defending state champs North Scott.
