Wapello boys’ basketball can be heard on KCII tonight when they battle Central Lee in Burlington for the class 2A district championship.

The Indians (21-1) are in the middle of one of those seasons that a community won’t soon forget and are just two wins away from punching their ticket to Wells Fargo. After falling in their only game of the season to Highland in early January, the Indians have rallied off 14 straight wins by an average margin of victory of an eye-popping 30 points per game. The Indians have got it done on both ends of the floor, leading the Southeast Iowa Super Conference in points per game with 74 and is second in the league with points allowed only giving up 46 a contest. Weapons come from all over with four players averaging double figures led by conference leading Trenton Massner with 23 points a game. Keaton Mitchell adds 14 points and cleans up the boards with an average of nine a contest. The Indians advanced to this game after an 86-46 win over Van Buren on Thursday.

Central Lee (18-5) stands in the Indians’ way and is also a team that is playing their best ball winning their last five contests. They beat West Burlington on Thursday 58-53 to qualify for the event. The Hawks have scorers of their own with three players averaging double figures led by Evan Doyle with 15 points and 12 rebounds a game.
