A break in at the Kalona Community Center has resulted in thousands of dollars worth of damages.

According to City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh at approximately 1:47 a.m. February 10, two individuals broke into the Kalona Community Center construction site and accessed the city hall offices through a temporary wall. The individuals stole a camera, lens equipment, and hard drives from the English River Watershed Management Authority office and caused significant damage to a door. Schlabaugh estimates a total of $5,000-$7,000 in losses that will be covered by insurance. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office hasn’t identified who the perpetrators are, and the city is working on installing more security cameras and enhancing the security of the building.
